Pet Insurance Appeals

Navigating the Insurance Appeals Process

Do not lose hope if your claim is denied! The appeals process is your chance to turn that 'no' into a 'yes'. Let's explore how to navigate this process effectively. Our office does not accept cases until you have exhausted any obligation that you may have under the policy to appeal a denial of your claim. Once the denial is final, we can gladly step in to help.

Steps to Challenge Denied Claims

When faced with a denied claim, it's important to approach the appeals process systematically. Here's how you can challenge the decision:

  1. Review the denial letter carefully. Insurance companies are required to explain why they denied your claim. Understanding their reasoning is crucial for your appeal. Does the denial letter advise as to the deadline for an appeal? If not, check your policy.
  2. Gather supporting documentation. This might include medical records, veterinarian bills, and any other relevant information that supports your claim. The more evidence you have, the stronger your appeal will be.
  3. Write a formal appeal letter. Clearly state why you believe the denial was improper or incorrect, referencing your policy terms and the supporting documentation you have gathered. Be short and to the point.
  4. Submit your appeal within the specified timeframe. Most insurance companies have a deadline for appeals, often 14 to 60 days from the denial date. Do not miss this window or it may affect your future right to challenge the denial of your claim.
  5. Follow up regularly. Do not be afraid to call your insurance company for updates on your appeal status. A pet insurance appeal can take up to 30 days. The time it takes to review an appeal depends on the insurance carrier and whether all of the necessary information has been provided. Persistence can pay off! The time to process an appeal may be dictated by the insurance policy. If not, the insurance company should only be allowed a reasonable amount of time to provide a response assuming you have provided them all relevant information.
  6. If the insurance company fails to respond or does not change its denial decision. If the insurance company fails to respond or fails to change its denial decision, then the next step may be to file a lawsuit to challenge the denial. At BABINSKY NEIMAND TRIAL FIRM, we would be happy to discuss this process with you.
